EARLY YEARS CURRICULUM

Languages: English-Khmer-Chinese

Young children pick up languages very quickly and naturally. Every day lessons are taught in English by native speakers. Khmer and Chinese languages are also included everyday and taught by our high quality teachers. The children also learn songs and rhymes in these languages.

Handwriting

Children are taught to trace over lines, shapes and then letters. They gradually learn to form letters in cursive mode, first in large size then smaller, but they are taught to keep the letters on a line and between lines from the very beginning.

Reading

We use various readers, but on the whole the teaching is phonetic. Children have one-to-one reading sessions of about 8 minutes three times a week with their teacher. We send readers home everyday as well, in order to make rapid progress, children should read aloud to their parents every day if possible.

Spelling

Children begin with 3 letter words and when they are totally confident with these they are taught various spelling patterns e.g. words ending in “ck”, “ook”, “ill” and “ell”.

Physical Development

With a variety of our modern children-friendly facilities including, playground, water play pool, gardens, sensory and movement room, your child is offered many opportunities to be active, to develop their coordination and movement.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

Your child will be surrounded by our friendly and professional staff who are trained with child-protection policies and other children who are taught to be polite and respectful; therefore, your child will develop their social skills; learn to form positive relationships with others, children and adults; to manage their feelings and other’s ones; and to grow with confidence and respect.

As your child grows, and develops their love of learning, the curriculum bring in more specific skills.

Mathematics

The children explore contexts in which numbers arise in their lives. They are taught to count to 20 in our Daycare Programme, to 100 in our Early Years Programme, and to add and subtract using the language of mathematics. They are taught to count in twos both forwards and backwards, to count in tens, to recognise and write the numbers and do simple addition and subtraction.

Understanding the world

It is important that the children understand the world around them. They are given many opportunities to observe, explore, ask questions. They regularly spend some time in the playground with older children. They also start to spend some time in the Primary years class with the 6 years old children on the term before their entry that Level.

Expressive Arts and Designs

Twice a week the children have an art lesson with a specialist art teacher. The children also do arts and crafts with their classroom teacher during afternoon activities.

Music and Dance

The children have a formal music lesson once a week with a specialist music and singing teacher. They also sing in English, Khmer and Chinese with their classroom teachers. Once a week the children have a yoga and dance lesson with our professional specialist teacher.

Sport and PE

The children have two PE & sport sessions each week with professional sports and PE teacher and go swimming once a week.

OUR MODERN EARLY YEARS FACILITIES

OUR COMMITMENT TO EXCELLENT

EARLY YEARS PROGRAMME

The Most Innovative Early Years Programme

Our Early Years Programme brings the best of UK's EYFS framework plus famous Montessori approach, encouraging our students to be independent, confident and creating the love of learning. Additionally, Chinese and Khmer languages are also included in our amazing Programme.

Every morning starts from 7:30am with Circle Time in English. Circle Time is a special time to remind our students of the things they did yesterday, share news that has happened in the meantime and discuss the day ahead. The children also share chants and rhymes, songs, read a story, and participate in movement games and relaxation activities. Circle time provides a time for listening, developing attention span, promoting oral communication, and learning new concepts and skills.

The day then generally continues with English literacy, and mathematics, and stories before lunch. The afternoon contains variety of activities; including Montessori lessons, sport, art, music and drama with specialist teachers in English, Khmer and Chinese. Exposure to a range of languages at this early stage is ideal for the development of linguistic ability later in life.

Communication with Parents

Parental/Carer Involvement

We understand how important communication is between parents and members of staff. We encourage parents to communicate with the school administrator or the key person as much as they wish. Parents are always welcome to request a formal meeting with their child’s key person or the school director to discuss their progress, the curriculum, activities, etc., but may find that these topics are covered during informal meetings.

PTC/Parents’ Evenings

Parents are invited to attend a PTC or parents’ evening each term, during which they will discuss their child’s progress and development.

Monthly and Termly Report Book

At this stage of learning, student learning activities and journey are recorded and observed throughout the course of month, term and year. Although, ongoing assessment is critical, we also assess students monthly and termly so that we can provide recommendation to our faculty members and parents to give proper interventions.

Early Years Food

We alway put health and safety of your child as our top priorities; therefore, meat, vegetables and even ingredients are carefully selected and checked by our school director for our students' lunch and snacks.

Snack and lunch menus are released monthly but monitored daily. We work with Psar Kruosar, the organic and safety meat and vegetables to bring healthy meals to our students.

We provide lunch and snacks for our children and we are able to accommodate most dietary requirements. Please check with our parent services team for monthly lunch and snack menu.

Parents who want to provide their own lunch need to bring to one of our child care assistants at least 30 minutes before lunch time.

Assessment for your child's development

Development & Learning Journey

Each child has a personal Development and Learning Journey to assess their progress. Progress will be demonstrated through observations, photographs and sometimes drawings or pieces of ‘work’.

Progress Check at Age Five

Between the age of five and six the key person will review the progress of the children, by completing the EYFS ‘Learning and Development Summary – Five-Six Year-Old Check’. This ongoing and year-end assessment is to make sure your child have good enough development, knowledge and skills to be successful when they begin another big stage of their learning journey which is Primary Years.
